Staff

Mr Young

Art is an important and very visible part of the curriculum at Braidwood. We welcome many artists to come and work with us.

Art and Design is taught at both KS3 and 4. Students encounter a wide curriculum covering many different skills and knowledge.

Keystage 3

KS3 pupils have 2 hours of Art every week for half a term. For more information of content please look at the learning journeys below.

Key Stage 4-5

Pupils have the option of GCSE Art at Key Stage 4/5. The exam board is AQA. The externally set assignment provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate, through an extended creative response, their ability to draw together different areas of knowledge, skills and/or understanding in response to their selected starting point. Some students take Entry Level Pathways at  Key Stage 4/5. The exam board is WJEC

Assessment at  Keystage 4/ 5

GCSE Assessment is based on two components as detailed below.

Component 1: Portfolio

The content of the portfolio will be determined by the particular requirements and nature of the course of study undertaken. There is no restriction on the scale of work, media or materials used.

.Component 2: Externally set assignment

AQA will provide a separate externally set assignment for each title, each with seven different starting points. Students must select and respond to one starting point from their chosen title.

Assessment objectives

AO1: Develop ideas through investigations, demonstrating critical understanding of sources.

AO2: Refine work by exploring ideas, selecting and experimenting with appropriate media, materials, techniques and processes.

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions as work progresses.

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and demonstrates understanding of visual language.

Entry Level Assessment:

Students complete units of work in Art and Design at either Entry 2 or 3. There are different credit values which lead to an Award (8 or more credits) or  Certificate (13 or more credits)
