Braidwood Trust School for the Deaf is the only secondary school for Deaf young people in the West Midlands region and we provide an “outstanding” (Ofsted 2010) education for those of all academic abilities, preparing them for the lives they want to lead in the future, whilst getting the most out of their lives now.

Always seeking ways to foster the all-round development of our pupils and to unlock their full potential, Braidwood wants to widen and deepen our relationship with business and enterprise in the community of Birmingham and further afield, to everyone’s mutual benefit.

Braidwood Works was a morning of opportunity when we  welcomed members of business and commerce, both local to Birmingham and further afield, to enjoy some time with us, and to profit from that time.

We helped to raise aspirations for our young people and their parents whilst offering the opportunity to representatives from business and enterprise to network and learn about deaf employment issues and just how easy it can be to employ a deaf person and some of the benefits of working with an outstanding school.

Thank you to all those who took part and helped to make this a successful and rewarding event.

Welcome

Welcome to our website. We hope that it will provide you with information about the school and the community it serves. At Braidwood we value each and every young person as an individual, worthy of respect and dignity. It is our vision to ensure that we turn potential into success for everyone of our students.

Pupil at BraidwoodAs a school for d/Deaf pupils we provide a wide range of experiences that enrich the lives of our students and allow them to enjoy, achieve and succeed. Students follow the National Curriculum and take National Exam Board Qualifications at the end of Key Stage 4. Our curriculum is delivered by experienced Teachers of the Deaf who enhance accessibility and show consideration for the impact of d/Deafness. Where modifications to the curriculum occur, equal but alternative opportunities are provided.

The benefit of sharing our campus with a mainstream secondary school is the opportunities it provides for our students to study and interact alongside their hearing peers in a fully supported inclusive environment. Our philosophy is to develop a truly inclusive school environment where difference and diversity are celebrated and where British Sign Language is simply another language rather than a special need and where the language of negative discrimination no longer exists.
