Welcome to our Sixth Form

Our Sixth Form is an important link between school life and adult life. We believe that our Sixth Formers are young adults and therefore afford them certain entitlements: They have a Sixth Form Common Room complete with kitchen, TV, lockers and study area, and they are not expected to wear school uniform and are sometimes given time on the timetable for independent study.

Why join our sixth form?

Not every learner feels ready to leave school and go to college or into other training,  or to start work in a job. Some learners chose to stay at Braidwood to improve their qualifications as well  as to develop their personal, social and work related skills.

Learners can choose to stay for 1 or 2 years.

Braidwood School promises to help learners develop fully as young adults.

What can I study in the Sixth Form?

If you have not achieved a GCSE Grade 4 in both English and Maths you will carry on studying them and working to improve your grade.

Learners can choose to continue studying any of the  subjects they took in KS4. This might be to improve their grades at a particular level, or to progress onto a higher level. Learners can also take new subjects to widen their portfolio of qualifications and develop their knowledge and skills in new areas. Our offer may be altered to accommodate the interests and needs of our learners.

The Sixth Form also offers……

All Sixth Formers will receive Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance throughout their time with us.  This is a critical stage in a young persons development and will help you plan for your future and make informed choices for their next step beyond Braidwood.

All learners receive independent careers advice and have two 1 to 1 Careers Interviews to update their Career Plan. They also visit local colleges to see what courses they offer

We offer a strong programme of WorkSkills, Employability, Enterprise Education, Life and Living Skills, PSHCE, Financial Education and Pathways courses. We have taken part in two excellent 'virtual' Work Experience projects with the NHS and HS2. We have also been able to engage with the Birmingham Cornerstone Employers group and all learners participated in the 'Me Plc' project, learning how to sell themselves in interviews. We have also been able to work with ASK to deliver sessions on Traineeships and Apprenticeships. Learners have also taken part in workshops from BID Employment Services about their offer and to explain Access to Work and the Equality Act 2010.
